ADVANCE provided a list of 159 hospitals in the areas of MD/DC/VA and invited readers to rank their facility by responding on a 1-5 scale to 10 statements in five different categories, 1 being "strongly disagree" to 5 which is "strongly agree."
From this list of hospitals on the survey posted on the Web, participants voted on 71 different hospitals. A minimum number of three participants had to vote on a hospital in order for it to be part of the calculations; 22 hospitals made that cut. We then took the total score for each question and determined the average score per hospital per category.
The highest possible average score was 5, but no hospital achieved that. The highest average score was 4. Each hospital in any of the individual categories in the Readers' Choice list scored a 4 in that category. Hospitals listed in all 5 of the categories are in the Readers' Choice Honor Roll.
