ADVANCE provided a list of 217 hospitals in the areas of PA/southern NJ/DE region and invited readers to rank their facility by responding on a 1-5 scale to 10 statements in five different categories, 1 being "strongly disagree" to 5 which is "strongly agree." The survey ran on the ADVANCE for Nurses Web site from March 1 to July 31.
From this list of hospitals on the survey posted on the Web, participants voted on 93 different hospitals. A minimum number of three participants had to vote on a hospital in order for it to be part of the calculations. Forty-four hospitals made that cut. We then took the total score for each question and determined the average score per hospital per category.
The highest possible average score was 5, but no hospital achieved this. The highest average score was 4. Each hospital in any of the individual categories in the Readers' Choice list scored a 4 in that category. Hospitals listed in 5 of the categories are in the Readers' Choice Honor Roll. In the areas of PA/southern NJ/DE, nine hospitals are listed in Top Honors.
