ClearCount Medical Solutions, an innovator of patient safety solutions for the operating room, announced its SmartSponge System Operating Procedures have earned the first-ever Seal of Recognition awarded by the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN).
The SmartSponge System is the first and only system to incorporate the efficiency of counting with the safety of detection. It is the only system to provide continuous versus episodic counting. Providing an average of 80,000 counts per procedure, this continuous counting benefit provides valuable assurance in every surgical case.
The AORN Recognition Program is a process by which in-service and training content is reviewed by AORN to assure accordance with the AORN Perioperative Standards and Recommended Practices.
"Our SmartSponge System technology was invented by an Operating Room nurse to improve OR safety through improved counting and detection of surgical sponges," said David Palmer, ClearCount's president and CEO. "We are grateful to be the first company to have its educational material achieve this AORN distinction."
The AORN Seal of Recognition communicates to more than 43,000 AORN members and the rest of the perioperative nursing community that this program is dedicated to that same excellence in safe patient care.
"I would like to congratulate ClearCount for earning the AORN Seal of Recognition," said Linda Groah, MSN, RN, CNOR, FAAN, executive director and CEO of AORN. "The AORN Seal of Recognition is significant to the perioperative community as a trusted symbol representing excellence in training, information and support."
