Durham Regional Hospital, Durham, NC, has received an American College of Cardiology Foundation's ACTION Registry-Get With the Guidelines Silver Performance Achievement Award for 2009.
According to facility officials, the award recognizes Durham Regional's commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that the facility has reached an aggressive goal of treating coronary artery disease, with 85 percent compliance to core standard levels of care outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations.
"We're honored to be recognized by the American College of Cardiology for the work our physicians and staff have done to improve the quality of cardiovascular care for our patients," said Kerry Watson, CEO of Durham Regional.
To receive the award, Durham Regional consistently followed designated treatment guidelines for 12 consecutive months, officials said. These include aggressive use of medications like cholesterol-lowering drugs, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors, aspirin and anticoagulants in the hospital.
Created by the merger of the American College of Cardiology Foundation's ACTION Registry and the American Heart Association's Get With the Guidelines program, ACTION Registry-GWTG combines both programs into a single, unified national registry. The new registry joins data collection and quality reporting with collaborative models, tools and quality-improvement techniques. The registry establishes a national standard for understanding and improving the quality, safety and outcomes of care provided for patients with coronary artery disease.
