Joliet, IL - Nursing Program Awarded DNP Grant
The University of St. Francis College of Nursing and Allied Health was awarded a more than $800,000 grant for its new Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program.
The Health Resources and Services Administration, an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, awarded the grant for funding of the DNP program over the next 3 years.
The funding is multifaceted, supporting the design and delivery of the DNP program that began this academic year. Graduates of the program will be specifically prepared to practice in medically underserved areas and with vulnerable populations, including the poor, elderly, working families, the marginalized and the uninsured. A nursing education concentration also is available to prepare the doctoral students to educate tomorrow's nurses.
Maria Connolly, PhD, APN/CNS, CNE, FCCM, ANEF, dean of the College of Nursing and Allied Health, said the grant allows the university to continue its high level of instruction in the classroom and high level of care at the university's Health & Wellness Center, a primary care clinic managed by advanced practice nurses who also are university faculty members.
