Illinois & Wisconsin- Notable Programs Earn Cancer Care Distinction
The Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons granted its 2008 CoC Outstanding Achievement Award to 95 of 478 currently accredited and newly accredited cancer programs across the United States.
Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield, IL, Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, and VA Edward Hines Jr. Hospital, Hines, IL, were recognized in Illinois.
In Wisconsin, Aurora BayCare Medical Center and St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, WI, Mercy Health System, Janesville, Aurora Medical Center-Kenosha, Kenosha, WI, and Franciscan Skemp Healthcare-La Crosse, La Crosse, WI, were recognized.
Among the newly accredited cancer programs receiving the Outstanding Achievement Award were Elmbrook Memorial Hospital, Brookfield, WI, Aurora Memorial Hospital of Burlington, Burlington, WI, Aurora Lakeland Medical Center, Elkhorn, WI, and
Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville, IN.
A facility receives the award following the onsite evaluation by a physician surveyor during which time the facility demonstrates a commendation level of compliance with seven standards that represent the full scope of the cancer program activities: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, research, community outreach and quality improvement. In addition, the facility receives a compliance rating for 29 additional cancer program standards.
