LaGrange, IL - Rockwood Completes Degree With Foundation Scholarship
In the home stretch of her 5-year stint as a nursing student, Michelle Rockwood, RN, was awarded a $2,500 scholarship by the La Grange Memorial Hospital Foundation to fulfill her dream of becoming a nurse - which she did on July 24 when she passed the NCLEX.
The Harold & Leona Ford Nursing Scholarship is available annually to one or two full-time nursing students who are in the final year of pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in nursing; have maintained a grade point average of 2.5 or better; will obtain an Illinois RN license within 6 months of graduation; and are at last 18 years old.
Prior to becoming a nurse, Rockwood worked as a certified medical assistant at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital, La Grange, IL, and earned her associate's degree in nursing from Moraine Valley Community College in Palos Hills.
She has worked at Adventist La Grange Memorial Hospital's Community Family Practice Center since 1997. She credits her supervisor, Diane Novak, BSN, RN, with persuading her to pursue a nursing degree and helping rearrange her work schedule to accommodate Rockwood's class schedule.
"If it wasn't for the support and encouragement from my boss, Diane, I never would have pursued my dream of becoming a nurse," Rockwood said.
