Arlington - Texas Health Breaks Ground on Arlington ED Expansion
Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital broke ground Nov. 10 on a $4.5 million expansion of its Cravens Emergency Department. The expansion, funded largely by donations, will add 16 new treatment beds, a new triage area and an enlarged waiting area. Eight of the 16 new beds are earmarked for fast-track exam space to help speed treatment for minor ailments, facility officials said. The expected completion date is July 2010.
Last year, approximately 60,000 patients visited the hospital's ED. The new additions will help meet the growing needs of the Arlington area and allow room for future disease-specific outpatient clinics intended to give patients the tools to manage chronic conditions, according to officials.
Outpatient clinics are planned for patients with hypertension, chronic pain, asthma and other chronic illnesses that often bring them to the ED and lead to hospital admission. Texas Health Arlington Memorial currently offers outpatient programs for management of diabetes and heart failure.
