Given the number of specialties and types of facilities that exist for today's nurses, salaries can vary widely. Add in the regional factor - how do salaries compare for Secaucus, San Antonio and San Francisco for example? - and the numbers are even more skewed.
ADVANCE eliminates the guesswork. We've crunched the numbers and analyzed the data based on the thousands of responses to our online survey. Thanks to our interactive, Web-based Salary Calculator, you can now take a not-so-subtle peek at the virtual paychecks of your fellow nurses, from the ones employed by hospital down the street or across the country.
A few interesting findings:
- The majority of respondents, 35 percent, are relatively new grads (1-5 years of experience). More than 16 percent have 6-10 years of experience; just over 13 percent have 11-15 years under their belts.
- Nearly 11 percent have been employed for 16-20 years, and close to 9 percent have been providing nursing care for 21-25 years.
- In our 2005 survey, 22 percent of respondents stated that they were required to work overtime. In our new survey, that figure increased to 36 percent.
- Nearly 43 percent of respondents have bachelor's degrees, up from 35 percent in 2005.
- Approximately 65 percent are not certified in the specialty area in which they practice; 35 percent are.
- The majority of respondents, 54.5 percent, work in a hospital/acute care setting. Nearly 10 percent are employed at a setting they classified as "other;" 5.9 percent work in long-term care.
