More than 1,000 nurses and healthcare professionals from 300-plus U.S. and Canadian hospitals are expected to meet in San Diego April 6-8 for the 2014 Annual NICHE [Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem  Elders] Conference at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina.

The theme of this year's conference is "Care. Collaborate. Change."

The annual NICHE Conferences are designed to share evidence-based innovations and research. The goal is to support hospitals and other healthcare organizations in providing quality care for older adult patients.

For complete conference information and to register, visit http://www.conference2014.nicheprogram.org.

Conference keynote speakers are:
  • Sr. Carol Keehan, DC, president and CEO, Catholic Health Association of the United States;
  • Diane E. Meier, MD, FACP, CEO, Center to Advance Palliative Care; and
  • Eileen Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean, New York University College of Nursing.
In a series of panel presentations, clinicians, administrators and researchers will present evidence-based approaches to promote positive outcomes and experiences for the hospitalized older adult. More than 100 poster presentations on palliative/end of life, pain/pain management, transitions and chronic/acute illness subjects will be exhibited. CE contact hours will be available.

"This year's conference - our first on the West Coast - has been structured for more speakers in both track and plenary sessions," says Liz Capezuti, PhD, RN, FAAN, outgoing director, NICHE and currently the Dr. John W. Rowe Professor in Successful Aging, New York University College of Nursing. "Our keynotes, panels and posters will certainly inspire and help implement change we need to better care for our older adults."

An international program designed to help hospitals improve the care of older adults, NICHE, based at NYU College of Nursing, consists of more than 500 hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout North America. For more information, visit www.nicheprogram.org.
