More than 1,000 nurses and healthcare professionals from over 300 U.S. and Canadian hospitals are expected to meet in San Diego April 6-8 for the 2014 Annual NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) Conference.

The theme of this year's conference, to be held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina, is: "Care. Collaborate. Change."

The annual NICHE conferences are designed to share evidence-based innovations and research in geriatric nursing. The goal is to support hospitals and other healthcare organizations in meeting one of the most critical challenges of our times: quality care of older adults.

For complete conference information and to register, visit http://conference2014.nicheprogram.org.

NICHE Conference keynote speakers for 2014 include:

Sr. Carol Keehan, DC, president and CEO, Catholic Health Association of the United States;
Diane E. Meier, MD, FACP, CEO, Center to Advance Palliative Care; and
Eileen Sullivan-Marx, PhD, RN, FAAN, Dean, New York University College of Nursing.

In a series of panel presentations, clinicians, administrators and researchers will present evidence-based approaches to promote positive outcomes and experiences for the hospitalized older adult. More than 100 poster presentations on palliative/end of life, pain/pain management, transitions and chronic/acute illness subjects will be exhibited. Contact hours will be provided.

"This year's conference, our first on the West Coast, has been structured for more speakers in both track and plenary sessions," says NICHE Director, Liz Capezuti, PhD, RN, FAAN. "Our keynotes, panels and posters will certainly inspire and help implement change we need to better care for our older adults."

NICHE (Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders) is an international program designed to help hospitals improve the care of older adults. Its mission is to provide principles and tools to stimulate a change in the culture of healthcare facilities to achieve patient-centered care for older adults.
