Campaign Focuses on Bone Health in Cancer Patients
Amgen and three leading non-profit cancer patient advocacy and support groups - Y-ME National Breast Organization, Us TOO International Prostate Cancer Education and Support Network, and, International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) - have teamed up to raise awareness of the important role of bone health for cancer patients through a new campaign called Bone Health in Focus.
When advanced cancer spreads, it often spreads to bones, often causing severe pain and can lead to serious bone complications, such as fractures and spinal cord injury, and require surgery or radiation.
New study results have shown the majority of patients are unaware of the danger of cancer spreading to their bones or its consequences. The Bone Health in Focus reports were designed to fill this gap in education, and are customized for patients living with breast cancer, prostate cancer, or multiple myeloma.
The reports feature: insights from physician and patient surveys; patient stories; and ptips and tools for effective communication about bone health.
Three new reports are available free for download online to act as educational resources for cancer patients at www.BoneHealthinFocus.com. For more information on Amgen, contact 800-772-6436.
Resource Helps Clinicians Reduce Risk of Blood Exposure from Catheters
Healthcare workers now have the ability to better identify risks for exposure to bloodborne pathogens, take precautions to better protect themselves, and share information and experiences as a result of a new program developed by BD Medical, a segment of BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company) and the world's leading provider of IV catheters.
The BD Making Safety Safer program will provide nurses and other healthcare professionals with a forum to share information on risks, precautions and interventions, learn from experts and peers, and assist hospitals and other healthcare organizations in addressing ongoing concerns relating to blood exposure due to insertion of a short peripheral IV catheter (SPIVC).
This program will help educate nurses to approach short peripheral IV insertion with more caution, such as using appropriate personal protective equipment and taking other appropriate precautions to better protect themselves from contaminated blood.
BD also is sponsoring online forums on blood safety and inviting clinicians to learn and share their experiences.

New Lancing System Delivers More Comfortable Blood Glucose Testing
The new OneTouch Delica Lancing System LifeScan Inc. is designed to provide more comfortable blood glucose testing for the 18 million Americans diagnosed with diabetes.
The OneTouch Delica System may help patients overcome the fear and pain associated with lancing (piercing the skin with a needle to draw a blood sample).
In a clinical study of nearly 200 people with diabetes, 4 out of 5 reported the OneTouch Delica Lancing System was virtually painless and the most comfortable lancing device they have ever used. Ninety-six percent said it was easy to use and 84 percent reported that it was quiet, and provided a discreet lancing solution.
To provide improved comfort, the OneTouch Delica System features a new, proprietary 33 gauge lancet that is 40 percent thinner than current industry standard 28 gauge lancets. In addition, the system guides the lancet in a swift, straight motion that reduces vibration for a smoother lancing experience. It also features seven adjustable depth settings to allow for shallower fingertip punctures that may be less painful.

Bedbug Resistant Products Keep Pests Out of Hotels
BugZip bedbug resistant products from Vantzen Products Inc. are an added-value amenity in guestrooms and cruise ship cabins and suites.
"Hotels and cruise ships would do well to consider offering BugZip Heavy-Duty Luggage-Drawer Encasements to their valued guests by placing them in hotel wardrobes and drawers," said Adam Greenberg, Vantzen president.
Bedbugs have made a huge comeback. According to a recent study, 67 percent of nearly 1,000 pest management companies surveyed have treated bed bug infestations in hotels. And overall, bed bug calls have increased by 81 percent since 2000, according to the National Pest Management Association.
More information on the bedbug resistant products is available at www.bugzip.com and 800-348-6912.
