Children's Hospital of Alabama recently received a $25,000 check from country music star Sara Evans and her husband, sports commentator Jay Barker, a retired professional football player and former University of Alabama quarterback.
Evans and Barker volunteered their time and talents to support the 2010 Regions Charity
Classic Golf Tournament last year, officials said. In lieu of accepting appearance fees, the couple asked that the funds instead be donated to Children's Hospital of Alabama, the primary charitable beneficiary of the 2010 Regions Charity Classic and the upcoming 2011 tournament. Evans and Barker live in the greater Birmingham area and have seven children.
"As parents and members of the Birmingham community, Jay and I have seen firsthand the difference that Children's Hospital makes in the lives of families throughout Alabama," Evans said. "We are humbled by the opportunity to play a small role in supporting this outstanding organization."
The tournament has raised more than $11 million for charity during the past 19 years. The Regions Tradition, the first of five major championships on the Champions Tour, will be played at Shoal Creek May 2-8.
