Chicago - New CNO at Rush

Cynthia Barginere, MS, RN, FACHE, in May will join Rush University Medical Center as vice president for clinical nursing and chief nursing officer and associate dean for practice, Rush University, College of Nursing.

Barginere most recently served as chief nursing officer and chief operating officer at Baptist Medical Center South, a 454-bed acute care regional tertiary referral center and teaching hospital located in central Alabama, and the flagship facility of the Baptist Health System, Montgomery, and an affiliate of University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Hospital and Health System.

Prior to 2006, Cynthia held progressively more responsible leadership positions during her 17-year tenure at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) Hospital. Her last 12 years at UAB hospital was as the chief nursing officer and associate executive director.
Barginere's 27 years in nursing also includes positions at a number of hospitals in Birmingham, AL, including Baptist Medical Center Montclair, Brookwood Medical Center and Lloyd Noland Hospital. She served as a nurse manager at Detroit Receiving Hospital and University Health Center in Detroit. She began her career in nursing in Tuscaloosa, AL, at Druid Regional Medical Center.

She has been selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Nurse Executive Fellow and a Johnson & Johnson Nurse Executive Fellow. She is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives She is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE) and the National Black Nurses Association (NBNA), and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives (FACHE). She served as president of the Alabama Organization of Nurse Leaders.
