Geisinger Health System, Danville, Pa., Holy Spirit Health System, Camp Hill, Pa., last week announced the signing of a letter of intent to potentially affiliate. The due diligence and approval process is expected to take 6-9 months.

"Forward-thinking organizations such as Holy Spirit and Geisinger proactively work toward enhancing care, and that is what we are now considering together," said Glenn Steele Jr., PhD, MD, president and CEO of Geisinger.

Holy Spirit Health System currently participates in the Geisinger Health Plan provider network.

The organizations share a number of achievements, including Magnet status, Hospital & Health Networks Most Wired status, advanced certification for primary stroke centers, "A" Hospital Safety Scores from the Leapfrog Group, Joint Commission accreditation, "100 Great Places to Work in Healthcare" acknowledgement from Becker's Hospital Review, and designation as Blue Centers of Distinction for cardiac care, spine surgery, knee and hip replacement.
