Provena United Samaritans welcomed the medical center's new team of neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs).
According to the National Association of Neonatal Nurses or (NANN), neonatal nurse practitioners are advanced practice nurses who work with the physicians and nursing staff to provide comprehensive critical care to newborns.
NNPs will rotate shifts from Friday evening to Monday morning.
Nurse practitioners work closely with a pediatrician and both attend, and assist in deliveries.
Sue Faber, NP, said, "Expectant moms in Danville are really fortunate to have this program. It makes it easier on the patient and the primary pediatrician if a baby is born outside of the Monday through Friday, 9-5 hours. We're here, in the building and can step in and care for the baby the moment the child is born."
