Delaware - Chapter to Assist Delaware Nurses in Need

View Comments (0)Print ArticleEmail Article
The Delaware Organization of Nurse Leaders recently launched a Delaware chapter of Nurses House, a national not-for-profit organization that provides financial support to RNs in need due to a medical issue or emergency. By completing a comprehensive application documenting an illness and financial need, a nurse may qualify for assistance with medical bills, utility payments and other temporary support.

"Chronic and acute illnesses do not discriminate and can affect any of us. A single medical issue can wipe out a family's life savings in a short time," said Marianne Foard, MS, BSN, RN, manager of nurse recruitment at Bayhealth Medical Center, Dover, DE.

Nurses House began in western New York in 1922 when philanthropist Emily Bourne left $300,000 in her will to provide a house for up to 60 ailing nurses to receive respite care. While Nurses House no longer provides housing, the group still provides vital support for nurses in need.
