As the 6th annual NorthBay Healthcare Nurse Camp came to a close, Kathy Richerson, MS, RN, vice president and chief nursing officer said the annual event for high school students was another rousing success.
Camp leaders, staff nurses at NorthBay Medical Center in Fairfield and NorthBay VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville, selected 32 participants from 70 applicants received. Richerson noted the teens were multi-talented, all at the top of their class, with excellent recommendation letters, and super achievers in every way. The students were selected from throughout Solano County to attend the week-long session, with time spent both at NorthBay Medical Center and NorthBay VacaValley Hospital. They rotated through the emergency department, labor and delivery, surgery, cardiac cath lab, NICU and ICU, learning just what it takes to become a nurse.
After successfully running the camp for future nurses for 6 years, NorthBay's Nurse Ambassadors have created a manual detailing how hospitals can develop their own nurse camp.
