Riverview Regional Medical Center announced their 100th partial knee resurfacing knee surgery. Riverview Regional Medical Center is the first hospital in Northeast Alabama to be able to offer its patients the new treatment.
The treatment is for patients with early to middle stages of osteoarthritis of the knee. The procedure only requires a four- to six-inch incision over the knee and the robotic technology allows the surgeon controlled and precise resurfacing, saving healthy bone and tissue.
In most cases, the patients are able to walk soon after surgery, drive a car within two weeks and return to their normal daily activities soon after that. The treatment is also available for total hip arthroplasty. The procedure prepares the hip socket a better implant alignment creating less wear on the joint.
