Maryland Hospitals Join International Hand Hygiene Campaign

View Comments (0)Print ArticleEmail Article

Maryland hospitals recently joined the World Health Organization's hand hygiene campaign. SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands is part of an international effort to reduce healthcare-associated infections and mirrors a statewide effort already under way in Maryland. Launched in November, the Maryland Hospital Hand Hygiene Collaborative builds on the hand hygiene compliance activities at individual hospitals. More than 200 hospital professionals from 40 acute care and specialty hospitals attended a November kick-off event and continue to participate through educational programs, webinars and the sharing of information and best practices.

The Maryland Patient Safety Center leads the statewide effort with support from the Maryland Hospital Association, the Delmarva Foundation for Medical Care, the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the Maryland Health Care Commission and the John Hopkins Center for Innovation in Quality Care.
