HealthGrades, a provider of comprehensive information about physicians and hospitals, recently named Middlesex Hospital to its list of America's Best 100 hospitals for 2012.

According to HealthGrades, the hospitals on the list demonstrated superior and sustained clinical quality, ranking them in the top 5 percent of all hospitals in the nation.

Collectively, during 2008 through 2010, HealthGrades America's best hospitals had nearly a 30 percent lower risk-adjusted mortality across 17 procedures and diagnoses. From 2008 through 2010, if all hospitals performed at the level of the hospitals making HealthGrades' best list, 179,593 Medicare deaths may have been prevented, according to HealthGrades.
