Milwaukee - Marquette Hosts Cancer Survivorship Symposium

Marquette University College of Nursing will co-host the 3rd annual Wisconsin Cancer Survivorship Forum, Wednesday, June 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the Alumni Memorial Union Ballrooms, 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave., Milwaukee.

Held in conjunction with the Wisconsin Comprehensive Cancer Control Program and the Milwaukee Regional Cancer Care Network, the event will include programming for both cancer survivors and health care providers.

"Cancer is a far-reaching disease that affects not only patients themselves, but also family, friends and loved ones," said Margaret Faut Callahan, CRNA, FNAP, FAAN, dean of Marquette's College of Nursing. "It's important to bring together survivors and health care providers from across our community to discuss ways to celebrate survivorship and provide improved resources for cancer patients."

A keynote address, "Advancing Concepts in Survivorship Care," will be given by Jennifer Klemp, MHP, managing director of the Breast Cancer Survivorship Center at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Provider-focused breakout sessions will include leveraging electronic medical records for survivorship care planning, creating hospital-community partnerships for survivorship resources and the long-term effects of treatment.
