ELIGIBILITY

Any group of nurses working together as a team: units, committees, chapters, etc.
The majority of the team members must be RNs.

DEADLINE: Jan. 16, 2012

Winners will be notified in March 2012. A panel of your peers will decide which teams get the honor of 2012 Best Nursing Team.

My unit, the Intermediate Surgical Intensive Care Unit (Gibbon 7 East) at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has to be the best place I can imagine to learn how to be a new nurse. As my first job out of nursing school, I was nervous but my amazing coworkers set me at ease with their compassion, level of care, and natural gift for teaching. I tell people I didn't have just one preceptor, but dozens. Every single staff nurse, nurse supervisor, critical care tech, clinical nurse specialist, nurse manager and more were eager to kinow how they could help me become the best nurse I could be. Although I know I have a long long journey ahead of me still, I feel confident that my nursing staff will always be there for me and most importantly, for our patients. This team has some pretty incredible acheivements, between using evidence based practice to reduce falls, pressure ulcers, and hospital acquired infections, and our recent designation as a Bariatric Center for Excellence, it is no surprise we are consistently ranked among the best hospitals and places to work in the country. As a magnet facility, my co-workers go above and beyond the call of duty to make each and every collegue, patient, and family member feel like part of a collaborative team. Why this nursing team deserves the award above all others is not because of just one distinct moment, but because of the hundreds of daily moments that distinguish us as the best. From witnessing my first code to discharging pediatric trauma patients in far better condition than before they arrived, every moment deserves to be recognized for the true acheivement that it is. I can honestly say that this is the best environment I have ever worked in and am so proud to be a Jefferson nurse.
