My book club and I liked the book very much! Not all white families were vindictive. Many helped their "help" try to achieve a better status! It also gave me a first hand look of how easy it was to destroy another human beings life(minority) by lying or fabricating a misdeed. The black people were powerless !!

I have read the book "The Help" and also have seen the movie. I think it is highly over-rated, and rather mundane. The subject matter is very important to our history, but white Southern women are shown as petty, vapid and rather stupid. The black Southern woman, however comes across as moving, intelligent and strong. I feel this movie is not quite what it is all about. It is not about high-school cliques. I do not feel this book/movie will stand the test of time, as for instance, "To Kill a Mockingbird"!

I've read The Help, and it's terrific. Even if you've seen the movie, the book helps fill in some spots and brings the characters back to life. After reading about the others, I think "Cutting for Stone" will be the next one I curl up with!
