The Next Generation

During National Nurses Week, 60 students learned the inside world of nursing.

During National Nurses Week, as part of Deborah Heart and Lung Center's commitment to mentoring the next generation of nurses, the hospital (in Browns Mills, NJ) hosted 60 students from Pemberton, Seneca, Shawnee, and Eastern High Schools, as well as Camden County Technical School, to share an "insider" perspective into the field. Rotating through stations including the operating room, cath lab, electrophysiology, balance problem diagnosing, a patient simulator, taking vitals, and splinting and wound care in the ED, the students were given a hands-on introduction to the nurses' tools-of-the-trade, and expectations about working in various aspects of a high-tech cardiac facility. One-on-one mentoring with the students enabled them to pose questions about what their future in nursing might look like.
