Many radiation therapists hold associate’s or bach- elor’s degrees. They must be licensed or certified in many states, which usually requires passing a national certification exam. #7–VETERINARIAN Expected Growth between now and 2026: 19% (approximately 15,000 jobs) Median Wage: As of May 2017, the median wage for a veterinarian was $31,750, or $15.26 per hour. Veterinarians care for the health of animals and work to improve public health. They diagnose, treat, and research medical conditions and diseases of pets, livestock, and other animals. Most veterinari- ans work in private clinics or hospitals. They must have a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine license to practice, as well as a state license. #6–DENTAL HYGIENIST Expected Growth between now and 2026: 20% (approximately 40,900 jobs) Median Wage: As of May 2017, the median wage for a dental hygienist was $74,070, or $35.61 per hour. Dental hygienists clean teeth while examining patients for signs of oral diseases and providing other preventative dental care. They also educate and encourage patients to maintain their own oral health. Dental hygienists typically need an associate’s degree, and all states require dental hygienists to be licensed.
