The purpose of this offering is to increase nurses' knowledge about recently FDA approved anticoagulants with distinct drug profiles different from current standard therapy. At the conclusion of this offering, nurses will be able to:
1. Identify the newest oral anticoagulants and their FDA-approved indications.
2. Compare the mechanisms of action, dosing, common adverse reactions and drug/food interaction profiles of the newest oral anticoagulants.
3. Discuss important patient teaching points that will improve outcomes and decrease adverse events involving oral anticoagulants.
