Healthiest, Unhealthiest U.S. States Revealed

New data from America’s Health Rankings reveals the healthiest and unhealthiest states and significant health challenges in the United States.

The 27th annual report analyzed 34 measures of behaviors, community and environment, policies and clinical care, showing the prevalence of obesity among adult population remains high and noting an increase of cardiovascular and drug deaths. For the first time in the report’s 27-year history, the cardiovascular death rate increased in the past year from 250.8 to 251.7 deaths per 100,000.

The following states are the five healthiest in the United States:

  1. Hawaii
  2. Massachusetts
  3. Connecticut
  4. Minnesota
  5. Vermont

The following states are the five unhealthiest:

  1. Mississippi
  2. Louisiana
  3. Arkansas
  4. Alabama
  5. Oklahoma
