October is National Physical Therapy Month!

APTA, other professionals plan celebrations

Each October, the physical therapy profession celebrates their accomplishments and raises awareness about the potential of the art for the duration of the month. This year will be no different, as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) leads the social media initiative and other aspects on National Physical Therapy Month.

The APTA is encouraging usage of the hashtag #ChoosePT throughout October to encourage Americans to choose physical therapy in their battles against pain, limited mobility, and other ailments. Physical therapy can also help individuals combat future injury and chronic disease.

APTA encourages physical therapists and others to share resources from the official consumer information website, ChoosePT.com. The site, expected to receive more than 4 million unique visits this year, features a “Find a PT” directory, guides to different symptoms and conditions, PT-related podcasts and other resources.

Perhaps the highlight of the month comes on Saturday, October 12, the Global PT Day of Service. As part of APTA’s National Physical Therapy Month (NPTM) celebration, staff is hosting events at its headquarters community and inviting local members, their staff, and families to participate in those activities. APTA also encourages members of the physical therapy profession, their staff, and families to do the same in their communities.

The 51 Chapter Challenge is APTA’s hope that each of the association 51 chapters — the 50 states plus the District of Columbia — will undertake their own service project.

Blood drives, charity baseball games and other events highlight the calendar as well. Check back for National Physical Therapy Month-related events throughout October.
